Home Improvements: The Process
At some stage in your life, you may run out of living space in your house.
Moving to a bigger house is usually your first thought – but can be a daunting experience, especially in this modern-day climate.
When you move house you never quite know what you are getting yourself into.
Will your new environment be better or worse for your family? Will your new neighbours be as nice as your current neighbours? Not to mention the financial costs involved which can run into thousands.
If you’re happy in the home you live in, extending may be the safe alternative.
Working with Architects and Structural Engineers, Joinery Services can provide a complete building service for all your home improvements.
How the process works
Stage 1
Every building project begins with a site visit and a chat on what you aim to achieve. Where you have not appointed an Architect or Structural Engineer, we will advise as to what you can do.
You will need to submit, to the local authority, a planning application detailing your building project. In order for you to do this, you will need to appoint an Architect. You may also need a Structural Engineer, where there are structural works required. We can recommend Architects and Structural Engineers we have worked with on our past and present building projects.
Once you have appointed your Architect and agreed on the layout of your building project, Stage 1 is complete.
Stage 2
From here, you will know if a Structural Engineer is required if so you will need to appoint one.
Once all Architects and Structural drawings for your building project are complete, you are ready to submit a planning application for your building project.
At this stage, you are able to obtain builders estimates. It is recommended you get at least 2 or 3 estimates.
Our estimate will be categorized into the different trades required and detailed for easy reading and understanding We will make a second visit to go over this in detail with you.
Stage 2 is complete.
Stage 3
Depending on how intricate your building project is, this part of the process is a waiting game. This is the ironing out the creases part, where all drawings are checked to see they meet current regulations and building standards. This process can take up to 3 months.
From here, you will obtain a building warrant which allows you to start works.
